2004 TOUR DE GEORGIA

The Dodge Tour de Georgia is the United States premier stage race.  At 641 miles this seven day race is also the countries longest of its type.  This race ranks at 2.3 on the U.C.I. (Union Cycliste International) scale, which makes it the highest ranked in North America.  With total prizes exceeding 100,000 U.S. Dollars it attracts quality teams from all over the world.

This race is owned and operated by the Georgia Partnership for Economic Development in cooperation with the Georgia Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism.  It is a non-profit event and is financed totally by independent sponsors.  The proceeds of this race go to the Georgia Cancer Coalition which makes it a total charitable event for a good cause.  Other major goals of this race are to promote tourism for the state and bring in cold hard cash for our tourist industry.  This event brings millions of dollars into the state.

The Dodge Tour de Georgia provides road racing stages over varied terrain along with a time trial.  There are flat stages for the sprinters and mountain stages for the climbers.  Many folks don't think of Georgia as a mountain state but the Appalachian Mountains of North Georgia offer more climbing than most of the cyclists could have imagined.  With two severe mountain stages no one can call this an easy event.  If you missed this years event then you need to reprioritize and come on down next year for some Southern hospitality served with a side order of grits.

I am working backwards on this page and will get more stages posted as time allows.  I plan on following the 2005 Tour de Georgia from the start and posting my observations and photos each day as the race progresses.  This will be the first time I try to cover any event "live" for the website and hope to work out all the details so that I can post the 2005 Tour de France "live" without any problems.  If you have any photos to contribute I would greatly appreciate them.  Please send all photos and verbal contributions to the
