2005 ATHENS TWILIGHT CRITERIUM

THE PARTY

When the rain started there was only one place for anyone "in the know" to go.  David C's office which is less than a block from the start finish line is party central for all of the key folks of the Athens cycling scene.  From Steve S, one of the announcers for the main event, to race officials; most of the folks that are Twilight regulars come through the office.  Every few minutes one of the race officials or local cops would come running through to use the restroom then rush back to their post.  In an effort to keep some sort of order to the mayhem David usually keeps a "rent-a-cop" stationed at the front door so don't think you can crash this party without risking an encounter with a night stick.

After each race a good many riders filter through and say their hello's.  Since it was raining the Jittery Joe's team rallied in the conference room to stay warm and dry until the last possible moment before taking the course.  This is called the home team advantage.   David is the best host and always has a good stock of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for teetotalers like me.  As soon as the rain slacked off everyone sprinted back to the course to enjoy the racing.

MOST OF THESE FOLKS ARE HARDCORE CYCLISTS

SOMEHOW STEVE ENDS UP IN MOST OF THE PHOTOS
