2005 TOUR DE GEORGIA
Sunday, 17 April 2005.
We arrived in Augusta today for press registration. The Dodge Tour de Georgia folks seem to have everything running smooth. They gave us our press badges and hooked us up with all the info necessary to cover the race. Race officials, team personnel and riders were milling about everywhere. I am really getting excited now and the anticipation is building.
The parking lot of the Radisson was jam packed with race related vehicles. It was also covered up with team trucks and mechanics working on bikes. The team mechanics are the backbone of any stage race. Without these guys the bikes would not make it through such a grueling event. I spent a few minutes walking around the mechanics area and checked out the bikes. There was more carbon fiber and titanium than your average gear head can comprehend.
Tomorrow is the pre-race press conference and the press conference with Lance Armstrong that everyone has been waiting for. Check in tomorrow evening for additional updates on what is going on from my perspective and for what Lance has to say.
